Psychoanalytic Counseling
I work in English and Russian

Get a better understanding of yourself and other people

Modern psychoanalytic counselor is not just an observer, but an «observing participant», as suggested by Harry Stack Sullivan
I rely on classical psychoanalytic concepts many of which are widely known and spread, such as unconscious, psychological defenses, internal conflict, psychological trauma etc.
I am also using some non-psychoanalytic concepts, for instance attachment theory

In my work I am applying modern psychoanalytic approach

in the sessions you are welcome to:

Talk freely

You may talk about everything that comes
to your mind. It is not that easy, so you might need some time to learn to talk freely about your experiences.

I will gently accompany you and help you
to open up.

Analyze dreams

In his fundamental work «Interpretation
of dreams» Freud stated that dreams are «the royal road to a knowledge of the unconscious activities of the mind».

I will help you to explore your dreams and their hidden meanings.

Dive into the past

In psychoanalytic approach we pay a lot of attention to early experiences.

We will take a journey in time to get a better understanding of your actual difficulties.

Fields of expertise:

My expertise covers other problematics as well. Contact me — and we will figure out together whether I could be helpful in your specific situation.

I usually recommend to my clients to try to live on their own for at least half a year.

Anyways, my door stays open if you need to return to me in case of dramatic life changes, losses, grief or just request a session on demand.

After

This phase may take from a few sessions to one year. We’re discussing possible options together and choose the one, that is tailored to your specific needs.
This phase usually lasts for a few years. As a counselor, I am profoundly interested in nurturing in my clients an ability to live on their own, but I also rely on the list of certain criterions, suggesting, that we should move to closure.

End phase

When agreement is made, we can move to the initial phase. This phase may vary, because every case is unique. To give an idea about possible length of this phase I would like to quote a living classic and a «rock star» of psychoanalytic psychotherapy, Nancy McWilliams: «The first year is just to say hi».

Initial phase

In case we have both agreed to continue our work, we move to the phase of discussing a contract. My work is based on the Informed Consent Form. This phase usually takes from 1 to 2 sessions.

Contract

You choose the direction of the session — I am there to gently accompany you along the way

Initial consultation

During initial consultation you are welcome to talk about the reasons and motives for searching for professional help. I have a chance to get the first impression of your current situation. In the end of the consultation we discuss the possibilities of further work. If there are any reasons standing in the way of working with me I would be able to refer you
to a colleague.

Within attachment theory, attachment means an affectional bond between an individual and an attachment figure, a parent and/or a caregiver.
